Answer:
Culture played an important role:
  • Folk culture helped in creating a form of common identity among the people. Folk songs and stories were collected and recorded. For example, Karol Kurpinski celebrated the national struggle with the help of operas and music. He turned folk dances into national symbols.
  • Romanticism developed in Europe criticised the glorification of rationalism and science and instead focused on emotions, intuitions and mystical feelings.
  • Language played an important part in instilling a sense of nationalism among the people. For example, when the Russians occupied Poland, they forced the Polish language out of schools. Later, in the Polish struggle against the Russian occupation, the Polish language was used as a symbol of resistance against the Russian occupation
