The HTML <canvas> element is used to draw graphics, on the fly, via JavaScript. The <canvas> element is only a container for graphics. You must use JavaScript to actually draw the graphics. Canvas has several methods for drawing paths, boxes, circles, text, and adding images.

A canvas is a rectangular area on an HTML page. By default, a canvas has no border and no content. The markup looks like this:
  • <canvas id="myCanvas" width="200" height="100"></canvas>
Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is an XML-based vector image format for two-dimensional graphics with support for interactivity and animation. The SVG specification is an open standard developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) since 1999. SVG images and their behaviors are defined in XML text files.
An example fiddle for SVG is as follows
The difference is listed below
SVG has better scalability. So it can be printed with high quality at any resolution
Canvas has poor scalability. Hence it is not suitable for printing on higher resolution
SVG gives better performance with smaller number of objects or larger surface.
