The success and failure of a security program is something that we can expect will be evaluated through a set of metrics.

Historically, security professionals have had a difficult time applying metrics to show the value of the work they’re doing. There are a number of reasons why this has been the case, but one of those reasons is that we as a community have focused on irrelevant measures.

When most people think about security metrics, they think in terms of things like:

1.Number of infected systems
2.Number incidents per category
3.Number of attacks
While those are interesting statistics to some, they are not particularly relevant metrics for security. Though this may sound radical, it’s really not.
