There are four types of variables available in PHP

  • Local variables
  • Function parameters
  • Global variables
  • Static variables.
The value of the static variable will not get destroyed as the function call exists
Refer the below code STATIC keyword is used to resemble staic variable.
  • <?php function keep_track() {
  • STATIC $count = 0;
  • $count++;
  • print $count; print "<br />";
  • } keep_track();
  • keep_track();
  • keep_track();
  • ?>
Each time the function keep_track() is called the value of static variable will be increased by one. The out put will be lik this
  • 1
  • 2
  • 3

There may be times when a static variableis needed in a PHP functionstatic variables maintain their value betweenfunction calls and are tidier than using a global variable because they cannot be modified outside of the function.

Static Variables inside Functions
Static variables when used inside function are initialized only once, and then they hold there value even through function calls. These static variables are stored onstatic storage area , not in stack.
