Anna University

Anna UniversityAnna University (AU), formerly Perarignar Anna University of Technology (PAUT), is a technical university in Tamil Nadu, India. It's been ranked 7th[3] best university in India. The university encompasses within it one of the oldest technical institutes in the world and has a history spanning 218 years (As of 2012). It was renamed 'Anna University' on 4 September 1978 as a unitary university, named after C. N. Annadurai. It became an affiliating university in 2001, absorbing about 250 engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. Between 2007 and 2010, it was split into six universities, namely, Anna University, Chennai, Anna University, Chennai - Taramani Campus, Anna University Chennai - Regional Office, Tiruchirappalli, Anna University Chennai - Regional Office, Coimbatore, Anna University Chennai - Regional Office, Tirunelveli, and Anna University Chennai - Regional Office, Madurai. On September 14, 2011, a bill was passed to merge back the universities. Anna University has once again become a single affiliating university for engineering colleges all over Tamil Nadu from August 1, 2012.[4]Scrapping of CET[edit] The Common Entrance Test, conducted over the years by Anna University in the name of the Tamil Nadu Professional Courses Entrance Examination (TNPCEE), for admission to professional courses in the state was abolished in 2006.[9] Starting in the academic year 2007-08, students were admitted to engineering colleges on the basis of their Plus-Two marks and their caste.[10] The reason stated for the abolition of the CET is that it places urban students at an advantage over rural students and causes significant expense burden on poor and/or rural students. This has resulted in substantially greater percentage of students from rural and / or poor backgrounds in obtaining admission to institutions of excellence predominantly in urban areas. It has also increased the burden of the teaching staff in such institutions to bring such students upto speed on par with their urban peers and led to perceptible downfall in their placement percentages over the years.Every year Anna University, Chennai Conduct the Examinations for Even Semester UG / PG at May / June and For Odd Semester UG / PG Examinations on November / December. And 1st semester students on Both UG / PG will have exams in January.[11] The university issues it's degree certificates
